COLUMBUS BONSAI SOCIETY ANNUAL EVENT DUE FOR BIG CHANGES
Thirty third edition will be shorter, more casual; sets stage for large scale event in October.
Plans have been announced for the Annual Bonsai Show, a yearly event sponsored by the Columbus Bonsai Society. The Society organizes the show as a way to publicize the hobby its members share: the ancient Japanese art of growing miniature trees. The Show will be held once again at the Franklin Park Conservatory and will feature a full day of events and displays. Visitors will be able to view at least seventy five examples of bonsai created by Society members, and observe ongoing demonstrations to be held through out the day, Additionally, the colorful and exotic wares of several vendors will be on sale .
In years past this event has lasted two days, but is being scaled back this year in preparation for the Ohio Bonsai Exhibition being hosted at Franklin Park Conservatory in October. Part of the Conservatory's "Bending Nature" exhibit, clubs from all over the state will gather in Columbus to display the best of the grower's art. "We are very excited to be hosting two events this year: said Ken Schultz, the Club's show chairman who is leading the effort to organize both events. "A big part of our mission as a group is to spread the word about this hobby. Two very public events double our opportunities to do that."
