Kanuma comes from the same mines as akadama in Japan but is found at a lower level. It is slightly acidic and is used primari- ly for acid-loving plants like azaleas. Although it is occasionally used as an ingredient in bonsai soil mixes, it is far more often used by itself for growing satsuki azaleas.
